The Ocean Terminal is a large shopping centre in the Port of Leith, and houses the Visitor Centre for the Royal Yacht Britannia, moored nearby. Since 2002, it has been a focal point for outreach work organised through Leith Churches Together. We aim to connect with, and serve, the people who use and work in Ocean Terminal and the wider Leith area. Over the years, this has included charity events; themed mall-walking; children’s art exhibitions; World Day of Prayer services; and a part-time workplace chaplaincy to give support and a listening ear to those employed there.
The current chaplain in Ocean Terminal is Jennifer Stark and she is usually there on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10.00am -12 noon. She can be contacted through the Reception Desk, or at other times via the South Leith Parish Halls office (0131 554 2578).

Pause For Peace @ Ocean Terminal, Sunday 11th September 2011
Our short act of remembrance for 9/11 in Ocean Terminal was attended by 40-50 people, and included a minute’s silence in the whole mall. We remembered all victims of terrorism and those working for peace. Several people told us afterwards that they had found it both moving and appropriate. Many thanks to the Ocean Terminal management and staff for their help in arranging this. For the order of service, click on the link. PAUSE FOR PEACE.
Christmas and LCT @ Ocean Terminal. This year we planted a Christmas Prayer Tree right in front of Costa’s Coffee – well, ok, it was in a tub but it blossomed over the 9 days before Christmas. Many passers-by stopped to write a short prayer, or remembrance message on a small card, and hung it on the tree, and by the time we took down the tree at closing time on 24th December, there were 120 messages. Beside the tree were copies of our LCT Christmas Card (designed by 10-year old Alex Hopkinson) with details of the main Christmas services in the Leith churches. ‘Leith, the docks, seafarers, churches @ Ocean Terminal’, 2nd – 7th November 2010
Wandering into the rotunda area in Ocean Terminal early in November, you’d have been confronted by 3 Debenhams’ models (no, not live ones) dressed in kilts, balldresses and ….accessories – woolly hats, helmets and high visibility vests with ‘Chaplain’ on the reverse. The accessories were those of three organisations: the Sailors’ Society, the Apostleship of the Sea and the Mission to Seafarers. They spring from different roots and church traditions but all share one concern: the care of seafarers. In 2005, they signed a covenant pledging themselves to greater cooperation as part of their joint vision to to make that care even better.
The display was organised by the chaplains and development workers of the three organisations, in cooperation with Leith Churches Together as part of their outreach in Ocean Terminal and Leith.
Our thanks to the management of Ocean Terminal for the use of the Rotunda area and to Debenhams for the use of the models.
