Jennifer Stark

Leader, Leith Churches Outreach Project

Born and brought up in Stirling, Jennifer’s background is in education, both in Britain and overseas (Finland, Jordan, France and Indonesia). From 1992 to 2010, she lived and worked in York, where – amongst other things! – she was involved with her church youth group as well as studying for a part-time MA in Theology and Religious Studies before deciding it was time to kick the traces over and look for a new challenge. ’Despite being new to Leith, I felt at home very quickly, not least because there is still a remarkable sense of community here.  I’ve been impressed by the commitment to serving the people of Leith, of any faith or none, which is expressed by many involved in the various churches, as well as other organisations.  Learning more about the seafaring community in particular, and the work done by the Scottish port chaplains, has been fascinating.  And there are exciting possibilities for continuing the outreach work in Ocean Terminal and, I hope, elsewhere in Leith.’

Jennifer is the part-time chaplain at Ocean Terminal, where she usually spends two mornings a week.  At other times, she is based at South Leith Parish Church Halls on Henderson Street, and can be contacted through their office (0131 554 2578) or email outreach@leithchurchestogether.org.uk
